  • 12th - City Council members John Shoaff, Thomas Smith and Don Schmidt along with City Council Attorney Joseph G. Bonahoom send a letter to Christopher Guerin, President of the Redevelopment Commission.  The letter requests additional information regarding purchases of properties in the proposed Harrison Square area.  The letter states, "I further want to reiterate that this request is not meant to nor should it be taken as adversarial.  Rather, it is merely a way for the interested Council members to gather information on behalf of their constituents so that they may intelligently answer questions being raised with regard to the Harrison Square District."  The quote is in bold print in the letter.  Full text | Return
  • 13th - Fort Wayne Police report that Edwin Gerardot Jr. swerved across three lanes of West Jefferson Boulevard and crashed into the Central America Restaurant.  The building is heavily damaged, but it will not need to be demolished immediately.  Instead, the city will be able to seek bids for demolition probably sometime in mid to late-July.  Journal-Gazette Article which includes a photo. • 29th - The Fort Wayne/Allen County Convention & Tourism Authority which controls the Grand Wayne Center's budget turned down a request by the City to fund the Proposed Hotel for $250,000 annually for 10 years.  Two Board members, Paul Shaffer (his residence was recently annexed into Fort Wayne) and Ed Rousseau, abstained because they are county appointees who live in Fort Wayne proper.  Steve Brody, another board member, recused himself because of a conflict of interest.  Brody is a Harrison Square consultant.  Return
