  • 3rd - Photo updates from the Lincoln Tower Observation Deck.
  • 4th - Ground photos of excavation progress.
  • 6th - Public notice published in local papers giving notice that bids will be sought for the Harrison Square Parking Deck Project.
  • 8th - The Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission unanimously approves a "Notice to Proceed" to White Lodging Services, the hotel developer, to begin construction drawings for the Courtyard by Marriott.  The Definitive Agreement for the Hotel has not been signed, but this will allow design work to begin as well as White Lodging Services to apply for various State tax incentives which needs to happen before the end of the year.  If the project does not go forward, the city will reimburse White up to $500,000 for expenses vs. the original agreed upon $100,000.  Return
    • According to Ben Lanka in The Journal Gazette, the location, design and historical preservation for the walkway between the hotel and the Grand Wayne Center via the Embassy Theatre, "has been agreed to in general", but that the City is still working on the accuracy of cost estimates.  Return
  • 15th - The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Board approves the transfer of the vacated Ewing Park at the Southeast corner of Ewing and Lewis Streets to the Harrison Square project. The Board also approved a conceptual plan for the park component of Harrison Square.  It will be 2 acres in size provide benches, an amphitheatre and a water park similar to the immensely popular one at at Headwaters Park Return
  • 16th - The City announces that the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Harrison Square will be held November 29, 2007.  No further details have been made available.  Return

    • Deputy Mayor Mark Becker shares with aroundfortwayne.com that plans for the walkway between the new hotel and Embassy Theatre will be presented to The Redevelopment Commission.  They will meet to consider a resolution approving a Capital Improvement and Access Agreement with the Embassy Theatre Foundation, Inc.  Then the Local Historic Preservation Board will meet to sign off on the project structurally.  Becker stated that the agreement will be beneficial to all parties involved, including the Embassy Theatre, and it is hoped that the work will done will enable the development of the top floors of the Embassy.  More information: Blog entry | Entire InterviewProposed Embassy Walkway Return
  • 22nd - Articles in the Journal-Gazette and News Sentinel report that details have been finalized regarding the walkway between the Embassy Theatre and City.  The cost is projected to be at $1.8 million.  In exchange for most of it's third floor, the Embassy will receive a second stairway, as well as an elevator shaft.  Currently, there is no elevator access to the upper floors of the Embassy.  The Embassy will also receive parking space which will accommodate the trucks that bring touring shows to the theatre.  Return

  • 28th - Subway Sandwiches closes for the last time.
  • 29th - Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Grand Wayne Center.  Mayor Graham Richard, Chris Schoen (Barry Real Estate Companies, Deno Yiankes (White Lodging Services) and Jason Freier (Owner Hardball Capital and The Fort Wayne Wizards) spoke at the ceremony.  The group walked across Jefferson Boulevard to the old Belmont Beverage site and broke ground, then returned to the Grand Wayne Center for the speeches and accolades.  Blog entry | Photos | Return
  • 30th - Condominiums in The Harrison go on sale.  Prospective buyers are required to put a $1,000 refundable deposit down.  Press Release.  On the first day of sales, 31 people put deposits on condos.  Return
    • The Wizards 2009 Season Tickets go on sale.  This will be the first season in the new stadium.  Press Release.  According to the release, single game admission prices will range from $5 for general admission tickets up to $12.50 for premium seating.  Return

    • The Redevelopment Commission opened bids for the Parking Garage.  Three bids were submitted by local companies: W.A. Sheets ($12,099,000), Weigand Construction ($12,591,000) and Hagerman Construction ($12,482,000).  W.A. Sheets had the low bid at $12.5 million which is almost a $1 million less than the estimate.  Contractors each provided alternative additions or deletions with each bid.  Due to the lower than-estimated bids, the City may now choose to have more brick work done or other options as well.  A contractor for the ballpark will be selected in the December 20, 2007 meeting.  Return
